Lt. Gov. Duncan Honored at State of Technology Industry Event
ATLANTA (Dec. 5, 2019) – The Technology Association of Georgia (TAG) has named Georgia Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan Tech Champion of the Year, an award recognizing Duncan for his many contributions to making Georgia a globally leading technology state.
Duncan was presented with the honor at TAG’s Dec. 4 State of the Industry Breakfast at the Computer Museum of America in Roswell. The event featured the state’s top tech leaders discussing the latest industry trends in key sectors, including Fintech, Digital Health, Supply Chain & Logistics and Information Security.
A technology entrepreneur himself, Duncan has been a champion of the tech community. He has worked alongside fellow lawmakers to pass legislation requiring that all Georgia high schools teach computer science courses by 2025. He has helped to lead a major push to expand broadband access into rural areas across the state, and is leading a vision to make Georgia the Technology Capital of the East Coast.
Each year, TAG produces a State of the Industry Report highlighting Georgia’s technology strengths and a 360-view on industry trends that are advancing the state’s tech economy. The State of the Industry Breakfast event included a who’s who list of tech leaders, leading panel discussions on key trend topics, including data security.
Randall Toussaint, Director of Corporate Solutions and Cyber Security (C² ), Georgia Department of Economic Development moderated the panel, which talked through the vital nature of data security for IT infrastructures. Panelists included Tommy Marshall, Executive Director, FinTech Academy; Kevin McInturff, Vice President of Product Development, Deluxe Corp.; Stephen Pair, Co-Founder, President and CEO, BitPay, Inc.; Joe Marroquin, Chief Information Security Officer, Encompass Digital Media, Inc., and Dean Mallis, Chief Information Security Officer, MARTA.
Leading a discussion on integrating supply chain and logistics technologies was Sandy Lake, Associate Director, Georgia Center of Innovation for Logistics. Panelists included Justin Rainer, CEO & Co-Founder, TeamWRX; Steve Vail, Infor Software; Marc Gorlin, Founder & CEO, Roadie, and Bryan Murphy, Director Instant Product Manufacturing Management, Scientific Games Corp.
David Nuckolls, Associate Director of Operations, Georgia Centers of Innovation, led a panel discussion on the measurement of opportunities and progress in a business world flooded with data. Panelists included Spencer Taft, Analytics and Data Leader, Cox Enterprises; Robert Hendricks, President Technology Solutions, Integra Connect; Anita Moser, US Neurology Assets and Optimization Lead, UCB, and WenZhan Song, Ph.D., Director of Center for Cyber-Physical Systems, College of Engineering, University of Georgia
Leading a panel on Georgia’s growing and vibrant Esports industry was Asante Bradford, Digital Entertainment & Emerging Technology, Georgia Department of Economic Development. Expert panelists from the Esports arena included Brennen Sheridan Dicker, Executive Director, Creative Media Industries Institute at Georgia State University; Todd Harris, President, Skillshot Media & Co-Founder, Hi-Rez; Matt Kogan, Senior Manager, Strategy & Corporate Development, Cox Enterprises, and Jeremy Poore, Director of Partnerships for the Atlanta Reign (Overwatch League) & Atlanta FaZe (Call of Duty League) at Atlanta eSports Ventures.
Part of TAG’s mission is to provide rich industry data that showcases Georgia’s tech strengths and keeps the tech community up to date on vital tech trends and thought leadership. TAG hosts 150+ events each year for its members and the technology community.
